What Gardening Means To Me ft. Stylist & Creative Director, Moses Moreno

"Plants are just vital to my idea of home, I don’t think that I could live in a space without them"
- Moses, Marly Grower

This week’s Marly grower interview was a quick-fire one, so, we’ll keep the intro snappy.

In short, Moses Moreno knows style.

So much so that he has made a living out of it, styling shoots, interiors, models, and celebrities in publications such as Vogue, GQ, Arch Digest, and Cultured, as well as for brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Reformation, and David Yurman, to name a few.

We were pretty flattered to see that someone who works with the most stylish of people, products, and places on a daily basis chose Marly for their own home.

We were even happier to grab a few minutes of his time whilst sitting atop his rooftop to discuss life, nature, and, of course, style.

Moses, thank you for joining us. Tell us a bit about yourself. Do you remember what initially piqued your interest in plants and gardening?

I’m a New Yorker, formerly from Los Angeles. I work in fashion as a Stylist and Creative. My only other career prior to that was skateboarding.

My love of plants and gardening was probably just the California effect on the mind. I grew up with so much lush greenery and then seeing it pop up amongst the modern architecture around Los Angeles, I think it was totally love at first sight.

What role do plants play in your daily life?

Plants are just vital to my idea of home, I don’t think that I could live in a space without them.

Can you share the story of your first plant and how it became a part of your life?

My first plant was an orchid. I think I was drawn to that because of the memories I had before my mother left my life. She loved orchids and in turn I always kept one around me.

Have you faced any challenges in plant care?

I’m definitely just learning by default, but the best advice I got was to learn to “listen” to the plants, essentially just learning to vibe together, as silly as that sounds…

What advice would you give to someone new to plant parenting or considering adding more greenery to their space?

Just go for it and don't be afraid to fail.

Do you have any favorite plant care rituals or routines?

Keep them misted, plants never hate a nice spritz

What are your go-to resources for plant inspiration, tips, or advice?

I've made really good friends with my local shop and they are my Emergency Room when I need it. So, get to know your local plant store!

I always keep an eye on the Marly journal and Grower Club newsletter too.

Can you share any future plans or aspirations for expanding your plant collection or incorporating more greenery into your life?

I would love to build a home in Mexico and really work with mother nature to create some incredible scenescapes.

How would you describe the impact of having a green oasis at home, and what role does it play in your personal style and lifestyle?

I don’t know how to live without plants and I'm really blessed to have the green space I have.

It's a paradise! Thank you for inviting us over. We're looking forward to seeing your space continue to flourish.
